Although it’s gotten a bad rap in the past, it’s a pain and simple fact that BitTorrent is one of the most popular ways to share and access content on the Internet. BitTorrent is essentially a way to distribute data and files over the internet, using a peer-to-peer (P2P) network to make both file uploads and downloads significantly faster.

A user downloads BitTorrents from a bunch of different “seeders” at a time, all of who contribute small chunks of the larger file the user wants to download. To do so, a user fires up a BitTorrent client and selects the BitTorrent file they want to download. You can find BitTorrent clients for almost any computer system or OS, and there’s even an official client released and maintained by BitTorrent, Inc.

Some of our other favorite BitTorrent clients include:

  • Transmission
  • μTorrent
  • qBittorrent
  • BitComet
  • Tixati

Like any P2P transfer methods, there are going to be some inherent risks to privacy and security, but BitTorrent is still one of the most effective and popular methods out there.

To Download a Torrent

Downloading a torrent is fairly straightforward:

  1. Find the torrent file you want to download. This contains the trackers that will find the peers currently sharing or “seeding” the file.
  2. Open the file in your preferred BitTorrent client.
  3. Download away!

Once you have enough of the file downloaded, you’ll “seed” automatically, helping the virtuous cycle of information getting passed around.

But Don’t Forget… To be secured Click here while sharing files P2P!!

This is an extremely important step: using a VPN while sharing files protects you in many ways, but most importantly, using a VPN will give you security and anonymity while sharing and downloading files, which is important no matter what kind of content you’re looking for.
